Since 2000, Cornerstones of Science has helped Maine libraries provide engaging science programs, books, and resources that stimulate lifelong learning among their patrons. The intent of "Silent Spring Revisited: Bringing Science to Life through Libraries" project is to expand the role of public libraries as viable and sustainable centers of science learning and citizen engagement. Using the 50th anniversary of Silent Spring as an education opportunity, Cornerstones of Science hosted a professional development workshop about Rachel Carson’s legacy for library staff, and is producing a Rachel Carson Resource Guide and activity trunk for library staff and informal educators.
