The 51st Annual Northeast Algal Symposium convened April 20-22, 2012 at the Schoodic Education and Research Center at Schoodic Point, Maine, part of Acadia National Park. The symposium included a wide range of oral and poster presentations from many aspects of phycology and included the work of students and professionals.

The conference theme was “Getting the Message Out: Gathering resources, exploring techniques, and practicing how to deliver messages to broader audiences.” Sea Grant Communications Coordinator Catherine Schmitt led a communications workshop for attendees, and Extension Associate Sarah Redmond joined representatives from Maine’s macroalgal industries on a panel that addressed the intersections between science and business.
