Northeast coastal communities are increasingly vulnerable to hazards from a variable and changing climate, including sea-level rise and increasing frequency and magnitude of storm-related floods. Those affected seek economic information to help communities adapt to coastal hazards.

Johnston will adapt established valuation frameworks to biogeophysical and socioeconomic data within Coastal Resilience, to provide a comprehensive perspective on economic benefits, costs, and tradeoffs of adaptation scenarios. Johnston will then test hypotheses about the magnitude of ecosystem services, links to environmental conditions, and differences across communities and regions.
