Ben Gowell

Ben Gowell is a senior 4+1 master’s student at the University of New England, expected to graduate from his undergraduate studies in the class of 2025 with a major in marine science and a minor in chemistry. In the following year, Ben looks to continue his studies at UNE and obtain a master’s degree. Ben’s academic journey is driven by his passion for studying fish through telemetry, hard parts science, and fishing methods, aiming to pursue a PhD and establish his own research lab. Currently, Ben is researching the movement patterns and natal origins of striped bass (Morone saxatilis) in Maine, utilizing acoustic telemetry and scale chemistry. The Maine Sea Grant Undergraduate Scholarship will support Ben’s research goals by providing financial relief and allowing him to dedicate more time to his research endeavors.
