Katie DeWater

Katelyn (Katie) DeWater (‘25) is an undergraduate senior at the University of New England, majoring in Marine Science with minors in Geographic Information Systems and Applied Mathematics. In the future, Katie plans to continue her academic studies by pursuing a pH.D. and aims for a career as a researcher, studying the impacts of climate change on coastal ecosystems. The Maine Sea Grant Undergraduate Scholarship will provide Katie support in continuing her ongoing undergraduate research and focusing on her academic pursuits. Her current research involves studying the effects of sea level rise on Maine’s salt marshes, modeling the vulnerability of Maine’s coastal archaeology sites to sea level rise, and monitoring the impact of rising sea temperatures on coral reefs in Belize.

Katie is a 2024 Maine Sea Grant Undergraduate Scholar.
