Coastal Conversations show: January 27, 2017
WERU 89.9 in Blue Hill and 99.9 in Bangor
Host: Natalie Springuel, Maine Sea Grant

TO BE RESCHEDULED DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES

Everyone needs health insurance to cover unexpected or long term medical expenses, but some lines of work are known to have a higher percentage of injuries and risk than others. The Maine Lobstermen’s Association is helping Maine fishermen sign up for insurance under the Affordable Care Act before the January 31 deadline for 2017. Meanwhile, the news from Washington is completely uncertain regarding the future of the ACA.

This is Natalie Springuel, from the University of Maine Sea Grant, host of Coastal Conversations. On our next program, we will talk with Alisha Keezer, health insurance navigator at the Maine Lobstermen’s Association, and other guests to learn about health insurance issues in the fishing industry. We’ll get the details about how fishermen and their families can get covered, and what options remain for affordable health care in these uncertain times.

As always, your insights, experience, and questions are welcome as part of the conversation. So make a note to tune in Friday morning, January 27, 10-11 am , when this month’s Coastal Conversation is about health insurance issues in the fishing industry.

Only on WERU community radio, 89.9 FM in Blue Hill and 99.9 in Bangor, and online at WERU.org.

Guests

Alisha Keezer, health insurance navigator at the Maine Lobstermen’s Association
