The Downeast region of Maine is said to contain many of the cleanest, most natural and least developed watersheds and wildlife corridors on the East Coast of the United States.

In 2011, a number of organizations dedicated to protecting these natural resources joined together as the Down East Research and Education Network, and they recently hosted a conference on the “History and Potential of Landscape Conservation in the Downeast Region – Viewpoints From Across the Communities of the Region”

This is Natalie Springuel, from the University of Maine Sea Grant, host of Coastal Conversations.

On our next program, we will talk with Aaron Dority of the Frenchman Bay Conservancy and Bob DeForrest of Maine Coast Heritage Trust, who will help us understand a bit more about the status and future of conservation of natural resources in the Downeast Maine region.

As always, your insights, experience, and questions are welcome as part of the conversation. So, make a note to tune in Friday morning, October 28 from 10-11 AM when this month’s Coastal Conversation is land conservation in Downeast Maine. Only on WERU community radio, 89.9 FM in Blue Hill and 99.9 in Bangor, and online at WERU.org.

Guests

Aaron Dority, Executive Director of Frenchman Bay Conservancy, and a member of the Downeast Research and Education Network
Bob DeForrest, Eastern Hancock County Project Manager for Maine Coast Heritage Trust, and a member of the Downeast Research and Education Network
