On our next Coastal Conversations, we are featuring a story produced by Galen Koch for the Island Institute podcast series, From the Sea Up.
For this episode, we are taking a trip to Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership.
Out on Hurricane Island, the path from the wharf leads past large shingled buildings, a research lab, a boat house – and up a steep granite ledge, dotted with tiny shingled cabins, wildflowers, and darting barn swallows. Aside from its natural beauty, Hurricane Island and its members are dedicated to facilitating intimate community connections between students, researchers, fishermen, and aquaculturists that helps create innovation for Maine’s Blue Economy. By integrating scientific research and education, they hope to prepare the next generation of leaders ready to address the environmental issues that influence our coast.
